My 60 1/2 pickup build

The media guy was pretty impressed with the metal quality after stripping it. Nothing but superficial rust. I'm kind of type A on dents and am trying to bump these out with as little to no filler as possible. I've got 14 hours in the roof alone. It pretty much looked like there was a dance party on the roof at some time on the past[emoji3]

That's a body tool that's used to work out dents in small spaces behind door panels. I use it in a loop for leverage on smaller dents in the roof. My shoulder couldn't handle holding the dolly on the underside and banging from the top anymore. Works pretty well on smaller dents.

Looks handy for sure and never seen one over here before. Been pushing up hard with a dolly on the roof for a week so far myself!

. Got my wheels blasted and powder coated and new rubber! Finished the new frame mounts on the cab and welded up the pto hole (and various other holes). Ready to epoxy the cab[emoji1360]

who did you use to blast and powder coat?

Brian, at Bare Metal Restoration in Belton.MO. He media blasted my truck also. Not the slightest bit of warp to any panel. Very reasonably priced and really fast turnaround!

. I finally finished my bodywork and sent the cab for paint. Only epoxy now until I get everything back togethor to make sure it all fits! Light at the end of the tunnel.

. I also noticed about 15 seconds of blue gray smoke on my initial, and subsequent, start ups. I assumed my lap job on the original valves wasn't as successful as I'd hoped it would be. So... I tore the top end back off, put in new valves, and fired it up. Purrs like a kitten with no smoke!! I love it when a plan comes togethor!

Ok gang, another question. Rebuilt L-226 in frame with temporary radiator. After I installed new valves/springs/locks etc., I started the 226 with just power to the coil(with cutoff switch) , ground and power to the starter. Started right up and ran perfectly for about 10 minutes without the slightest hiccup. All of a sudden: missing, coughing, sputtering and eventual shut down. Would subsequently start , but would run very poorly and die again. After letting the engine cool completely, I started it again and it ran poorly again from the get go. This was in a garage about 100 degrees. A week later I bought a new condensor and replaced it. Once gain, started and ran beautifully for 10 minutes til the above happened again. This was in a garage about 75 degrees today. Ive had vapor lock before but when that occurred it was pretty sudden and would not restart. This restarts but runs very badly. I thought I may have read somewhere that you can fry a condenser hooked directly to the coill for more than short periods of time. I'm going to try starting it later when it has cooled off. Thoughts?

When it starts running bad, use the choke and see if the rpm increase.. That will tell you if it is a fuel problem.

Choke didn't seem to make a difference. Actually appeared to get worse with more fuel/choke. Iced bags on the fuel line from pump to carb made no difference. I didn't have any clothes pins.

OK, so it seems the engine is getting the fuel it wants... Now move on to the ignition.. Check/replace the points.. Inspect the plugs.
Best of luck... One of my 1st moves is to see if the problem is fuel, ignition or compression.. Process of elimination..

Put in new points and plugs to specs. Started the engine cold again, same thing, poorly running from the start. Im going to put another condenser in to see if I fried my 2nd one.

OK! Put in the new condenser and it ran perfectly. This time I shut it off before I could ruin another one. Could it possibly be a ground issue? I grounded it to the grounding cable on the engine block?

I have a new coil, I'll throw it on and see what happens.

John - I had my coil hooked right too the battery for positive and grounded through the dizzy/condenser. I just pulled the wire to kill the engine, pretty high tech! No issues with that setup. Both Condensers I got from Walcks were bad and would run so so at idle for around the 10 minute range then nothing. I then got a Napa condenser and it has been smooth sailing since.
