58 Green Machine

Finally down to a rolling chassis on the Chevy. Looking forward to start rebuilding the frame now.

Great progress so far. Is the rear of the frame twisted and bent? Looks like it in the pictures but it could just be the angle.

Judging by your garage art, I'm guessing you're a dirt biker as well?

My son is a dirt biker. The frame just looks that way from the pictures. Just ordered parts to replace some worn parts in it.

Cool. I'm looking forward to watching this build come together.

Removed Control arms and gas tank today. Need to paint frame by arms before installing new arms and shocks. Soon I can start building up frame instead of tearing down

Front cross member and frame are primed

Okay, didn't know if you were using anything special or not, being a newer frame, that should be more than enough protection.

The front section is painted and looking pretty. Ready for all new suspension parts and steering parts. Hopefully I can reassemble the front next week.

Thanks. As soon as I get done installing the parts, it will get rolled into my other garage so I can start breaking down the Willys

Since our Christmas with our families was yesterday, it gave me some time to tinker in the shop a little. I was able to get rid of the AC unit on my 4.3 Vortec and replace it with an aftermarket bypass bracket/pulley assembly. Really cleans up the look and one less thing to have to work around. Plus I don’t use any horsepower turning a pump I don’t plan on using. Something to keep in mind for my gear head friends. Merry Christmas everyone!!!

I will be following this thread with interest, as I have a 51 Pickup that I plan to place on a 94 GMC reg cab long box 4X4 pickup. I have swapped a 47 Dodge WC pickup chassis onto a 1990 Dodge Dakota. I had to shorten the frame and move the engine back. Neither is all that difficult. One needs tp measure carefully and think thru what one will be doing prior to doing it. Before I can start on my Willys project, I have to finish up a 76 MG Midget project.
I hope your build will help me negotiate thru the maze so I can get the swap done with the least amt of problems.

Spent some time in the shop assembling the new front suspension. Just have sway bar left and replacing bearings in the new rotors. Hopefully this weekend I can roll the Willys in and start taking it apart for the Chevy frame. Every step is bringing me closer to a running Willys!

Things are moving along quickly. Willys is all torn down ready to start fitting on the new frame. Can’t believe how good of shape the Willys chassis was in. Kind of feeling a little guilty for not using it but whoever buys it I’m sure will be happy with it.

Looks like things are moving right along. The body you have looks to be in good condition. I will keep watching as you progress down the road to completion

I can’t believe how good of condition it is in. It came out of Kansas so that might help explain a little.
